Bruce Lee's interview 1972

The only surviving interview with Bruce Lee recorded on film. Conducted at the TVB studios in Hong Kong by Canadian presenter Pierre Berton. Aired only once (in Canada in January 1972) as "The Pierre Berton Show with Bruce Lee: Superstar of Chinese Films," it was later dubbed the "Lost Interview" after being believed destroyed. In 1994, it was rediscovered by a team from the Little-Wolff Creative Group at the Canadian Archives. Episode number 1892, recorded on December 9, 1971, is today one of the most valuable archival materials featuring Bruce Lee.

Pierre Berton was a renowned Canadian journalist, writer, and television presenter, renowned for his probing, intelligent questions, and calm interview style. He didn't treat Bruce Lee solely as a "kung fu movie star," but as a thinker, artist, and philosopher, which significantly influenced the nature of the interview.

Why is this interview so important?

This is the only complete, surviving film interview in which Bruce Lee speaks at length and unhurriedly. It shows him not as an actor, but as a philosopher and thinker. It was recorded just two years before his death (1973). For many fans, it is the purest source of his thoughts, untainted by film editing or third-party narration. Bruce Lee's interview with Pierre Berton is a unique record of a moment in which the master was fully aware of himself, his path, and the price of fame. He doesn't fight, he doesn't demonstrate techniques; he thinks, he speaks, and he is.
