Kung Fu Art Life exhibition 2013 - 2020
Since its opening in 2013, the Bruce Lee: Kung Fu‧Art‧Life exhibition at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum (HKHM) has enjoyed continued popularity, attracting an average of 600,000 visitors annually. In 2018, the 40th anniversary of Lee's death, it was announced that, by mutual agreement between the HKHM and the Bruce Lee Foundation in the USA, the exhibition period had been extended until July 2020. The organizers are grateful that local and international collectors of Bruce Lee memorabilia, whose collections were loaned for the exhibition, have agreed to extend the exhibition.
"Bruce Lee: Kung Fu Art Life" was organized by the Hong Kong Leisure and Cultural Services Department, in collaboration with the Bruce Lee Foundation and the Hong Kong Heritage Museum. The exhibition featured over 600 Bruce Lee memorabilia and artifacts, including over 400 items from the Bruce Lee Foundation—the largest number of Bruce Lee Foundation objects ever publicly displayed. It also featured recreations of scenes and personal spaces, from famous movie scenes to his gym and studio, film costumes, and props, including the yellow suit from "Game of Death" and nunchaku. Manuscripts, personal notes, Lee's glasses, and other personal items were also on display. The exhibition also included a 75-minute documentary, "The Brilliant Life of Bruce Lee," chronicling Lee's life and career. The exhibition, which ran at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum from July 20, 2013, was originally planned as a five-year exhibition (until 2018), but it gained enormous popularity and was later extended and modernized in line with the museum's new plans. This exhibition was one of the most comprehensive Bruce Lee exhibitions ever, showcasing not only his film work but also his human side, the metaphysics of martial arts, and his influence on popular culture worldwide.
